Overview
Bennett Jones is an internationally recognized Canadian law firm with 1000 employees across 4 offices. The firm's leadership position is reflected in the law it practices, the groundbreaking work they do, the client relationships they have, and the quality of their people.
Challenge
Bennett Jones required a portal solution to manage the firm's legal knowledge precedents and research. The legacy intranet was built with static HTML pages and expanded to contain thousands of documents. Content was not easy to find and robust search tools were not available.
Solution
V51 worked with Bennett Jones to develop a knowledge management strategy focused on managing and delivering reusable work product in an efficient manner. The solution included designing innovative faceted search interfaces to browse and refine through thousands of precedents and research documents.
V51 implemented Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 to take advantage of enterprise search, team sites, wikis, blogs, as well as document libraries. Through multiple web services the portal integrates with various internal systems including an enterprise document management system (iManage) and an HR information system.
The interface was customized across the entire portal to improve upon the user experience and ensure adoption of the portal features.
Results
Bennett Jones has established a benchmark in law firm intranets built upon SharePoint. The firm has a highly structured solution to share knowledge resources and to facilitate communication and collaboration across the entire organization.
